i don't know about icey-specific ones, but it's common in eventing to
alter shoes -- typically adding studs for traction for the field.

stjarni got trimmed again yesterday morning by a new trimmer, who showed
me some boots she has to which studs can be added.  the studs seem REALLY 
straightforward, enough so that i might experiment with stjarni's simple
boots (which we have hardly used) and a trip to the hardware store.  it
would be awesome to have a little more traction for icy days around
here...
