Sometimes the halter; sometimes the Parelli "hackamore" (which isn't one,
bu you get the picture). Either way, the ropes tie together under the chin
so you lose some precision.

Heck, I have already been told that I should not be allowed to have an
Icelandi if I'm not going to tolt correctly. And correctly is so much hold
on the reins that I blistered my tough hands. Sadly, Drifa and I don't tolt
with heavy contact so we are as incorrect as can be. We often tolt in a
halter <gasp> and well, you have seen my saddle. Drifa does all the usual
gaits (including a pace - which is great at high speeds and hideous at
anything slower than "really fast"). We don't have a very good way of being
precise at which gait because we haven't worked on it much. She does a nice
4 beat walk, nice 2 beat trot (when I wiggle my feet at a two beat time)
and the rest are random (another reason to be ostracized, I suppose). I
would like to get the gaits clearer but have been working on so many other
things. On her own she changes up and down through any gait that strikes
her fancy and she can change every few strides at times.
