Janice, You are fortunate to live in a state that allows non-criminals to carry guns. My advice is to take a concealed carry course which teaches you not only how to handle a gun, but how to responsibly deal with situations that arise and how to protect yourself. The course in Ohio was this way. Our instructor talked about diffusing situations vs escalating them. I think it was 16 hours. After taking the course you may decide on a tazer (which has to be charged and the person has to be within a foot of you) or if you feel comfortable enough to carry a gun. Ohio and other states have the concealed carry permits because of the good results that Florida had. Crime rates have gone down and none of the negative things that anti-gun people said would happen have happened in Florida and other concealed carry states. My husband and I took the course and are licensed to carry a concealed weapon. There is a lot of responsibility associated with this, I never carry, but my husband does. We don't normally make this public knowledge, but I know that I feel safer living in a state that allows the non-crazy, non-criminal be there to hopefully protect me. There's more out there with concealed carry permits than most people realize, but still not enough sane law abiding individuals are willing to take on the responsibility of helping to protect the innocent. How different would it be at Virginia Tech or the shopping mall if someone nearby could have taken out the crazy person who wanted to be famous by killing people? -- Anna Southern Ohio
