> There are many good endurance rides in lower MI, Renee,
I know! I know -- I've heard the ones held near White Cloud (White River
Rides) are good ones to attend.
I have always been interested in just trying maybe a 15 miler just to see
what it's all about. But I confess: I'm scared to death of getting lost.
(Don't laugh!) The only reason I was game to try the Michigan Shore to
Shore years ago was because my girlfriend going with me had been across the
state upteen different times and didn't even need to use the maps anymore.
I was totally dependent on her to tell me which way to go. I couldn't
find those blasted, tiny, little blue triangle (well hidden!) trail
markers to save my soul. She would often torment me by pausing at a fork
in the trail, and say something like, "Gee, all the tracks are going this
way, but I think we need to go the opposite way. Do you see the trail
marker Renee?"
>if you want to try one. How far away are you from Cadillac? I am
considering coming down at the end of June for the Hopkin's Creek ride,
which is about an hour from there.<
Oh Kristen, that sounds heavenly. . . But I would have a big job ahead of
me -- both my horses have been pretty much living the life of Riley the last
two years due to changes in my life (read: small children) and the loss of
my number one, anytime babysitter -- my mother two years ago. In other
words, they haven't been ridden much at all. We'd all need a LOT of
conditioning to be up to the task of even a 15 miler. . . My personal pet
peeve is weekend warriors and I will NOT be one. I'd rather be
over-prepared than under.
I HAVE lined a baby-sitter up for this summer, but she's in school, so
won't be available until the end of May. . . That would give me a month
though. . . Eitill could be readied much sooner than Soley I think, as he's
younger and, well, thinner, and he DID get some riding the last two years
down at Karen's. Hmmm. . . .
I love to horse camp -- haven't done it in years, but oh, I miss it. . .
Your stories of being a light sleeper and listening all night made me smile.
Yup, that's me too!
I have been known to flick a flashlight on my horse(s) about every hour in
camp. . . Soley used to be quite the Houdini and leave her halter and all on
the picket line.
If there was any stallion in camp, I always knew where to find the little
tart.
Let me ponder / dream on this appealing offer. I'm only 120 miles or so
from Cadillac. (I'm in Allendale)
Gee, maybe this would also motivate me to get back on my diet too. . . . : )

the snow swirl outside. . .
