Ha ha -- Hi Anneliese,
Usually people are wishing I'd shut up about my kids. I'm at work right
now, so no pictures handy but I promise to send one tomorrow. Apologies in
advance to the list. I'll try to find something "horsey"
We got home with our new daughter in June and she hails from Kunming China.
She turns 4 next month. You almost got a namesake, as Anneliese is my
favorite names for girls, but. . .big sister had her heart set on Charlotte
(from Charlotte's web), and we all liked that name as well, so . . . Charlotte
Jin is her name. ( I figure it could have been worse -- Laina could have
wanted Wilbur . . )
Charlotte was born with a right leg and foot deformity and had surgery
late in November to amputate her foot so that she could be fitted with a
prosthesis below the knee to even her leg lengths out -- she had about a 3-4"
discrepency between them.. She's doing great on her new leg -- walking
without a limp, running, climbing, standing tall! The language is also
coming along very well. We love her to death. It's like she's always been
in our family.
Now, she isn't much of an animal person yet, and maybe won't ever be, but
she has asked to ride the ponies, (I think because big sister Laina has and is
quite a horse geek at this point). Anyway, I am hoping her interest in riding
will come as I think that would be an excellent confidence builder not just to
get her through the typical, teenage girl angst years, but also an amputee.
I can see light at the end of my riding-less days as now we're beyond
diapers and toddlers in this household and in two years, they'll both be in
school. Much as I hate them growing up so fast, I am READY to hit the trails
again. I have a teenage neighbor lined up to babysit this summer, so
hopefully. . . I *think* I still remember how to hitch up the horse trailer.
<wink>
