>Yep, Pintos. I believe our American Reistry accepts, black, grey, abd >black/white. He has a lovely b&W team, full sisters that almost match!
How peculiar. >From the British Percheron Horse Society: "Grey or black, with a minimum of white. No other colour is eligible for entry in the Stud Book. Skin and coat should be of fine quality. Colour will tend to lighten in older horses. " >From Societe Hippique Percheronne de France: "grise ou noire dans toutes leurs nuances." (grey or black are the only variations) >From the Percheron Horse Association of America: "Percherons are usually black or grey, but there are also sorrels, bays, roans, etc. Many Percherons have white markings on the head and feet, but excessive white is undesirable." I wonder how on earth sorrels and roans crept in - I can only think there was some cross breeding in the US, perhaps with Clydesdale, or Belgians or something similar, as chestnut is a recessive gene.... And even the US association does not allow pinto Percherons - whatever your friend's horses are, they cannot be registered Percherons I'm afraid.
