Llamas are good guardians against dogs and coyotes, I don't think they'd fare well against a cougar.
Two stray coon hounds came into one of our pastures last week and the llamas and the two Great Pyrenees all ran to the fence on alert. Luckily for them, they were in the one that no animals are in, so the gate was closed and the llamas and dogs couldn't reach them. The poor coon hounds were terrified just from the Pyrenees' barking and I managed to catch them and call their owner before they got beat up! Cherie
