The red shirts had Sturm embroidered on the front and Jennie and Abby gave
Stephanie a silver bracelet with their three names engraved on it and the
word "sisters" - sort of a claiming ritual, an attempt to fix in Stephanie's
mind a time when she officially became a Sturm, since she obviously was not
adopted as in infant.

The four across the back of this photo are Brian (born in Viet Nam), Jennie,
Bruce and Me. In the front are Brian's daughter Claudia, Brenda (born in
Mexico), Ronnie (born in Portland, OR), Stephanie and Abby. Missing were
another adult birth son, Cam, plus Dale, who has returned to Viet Nam, and
our beautiful foster daughter Jenny, who is part Puerto Rican, El Salvadoran
and Mexican.

We really didn't set out to gather together such a culturally diverse
family. It just sort of happened.
