To me, it doesn't "teach" a horse anything, but he realizes that if he stands near you he won't have to be run to death. What kind of training is that? You can get "join up" much better with clicker training or TTEAM or approach / retreat, etc. I think that Icelandics may not be too different than other horses in how they respond to the "join up".
