Yes, he's barefoot with a roll in the front to help the breakover. The
farrier said he would trim him for his comfort. We talked about the Pete
Ramey trim and he said it was what he was dong.

I tried the wedge egg-bar (?) shoes a couple of years ago and it didn't make
any difference. He did not have shoes on before that either.

You only know there's a problem if you are trail riding and hit gravel or
hard surfaces. The vet said that since I have 15 acres of flat pasture which
is all grass (hence the muzzles!) he is not in any daily pain even if he
canters in for dinner. I do have padded EZ Boots, but since I don't plan on
any "real" riding I'm not sure I'll need them.

The vet said that if I was going to try to ride him I could get some special
shoes that are different than the egg-bar but he suggested just letting him
retire. So he joins my other 26 year old (my first horse) that I retired
right after I got him due to EPM, arthritis, and laminitis. I was the
classic baby boomer first horse buyer with **sucker** on my forehead.

Needless to say, my next horse (and my forever horse) will need to be VERY
SOUND!
