I can't see how it would help with Icelandics (or at least not from that article). It seems the jumpers put ointments or sharp things in the horses bandages so that if the horse hits the jump with its front legs it hurts more, so the horse jumps higher. How would that technique work for Icelandics? Or, what would you look at with the thermograph?
