Hi Susan
>>>Is trotting out long and low a sign the saddle feels
good, or the saddle is causing pain?

I would say that it depends. I have seen horses stretch long and low when
they feel the freedom to do so in a saddle especially if they have been
restricted in the past. I have also seen them stretch long and low when
being ridden bridleless, same saddle, but it seemed like they felt they were
free and were exploring the feeling of their backs. I generally view it as
a good thing but it would also depend on the speed and rhythm of the trot -
is it rushy or does it have more suspension?
