Just for the record, I've already seen Maja's colt do two flying lead changes, and he's just 12 hours old. He's also getting the "correct" leads. This isn't stuff that's made up for shows, nor is it something that has to be taught. Normal, healthy horses naturally pick the "correct" lead almost all of the time, because it's more comfortable and balanced for them.
