While a snowstorm howled at home, we had a glorious weekend in Northern
California. Even the very gusty winds seemed to add to the fun. Huinter
had sort of a "medium" day. He was forward and safe to ride, but struggled
a bit with drinking and pulsing down - probably a direct correlation there,
plus a bit of the drama queen aspect of his temperment. We rode too fast
for the first part of the ride and slowed way down completing in 13th and
14th place. Abby certainly could have let her big Anglo Arba mare move out
more, but we had committed to a middle-of-the-pack ride and just about
managed that.

The coolest thing, though, was seeing a very typical Norwegian Fjord, whose
other job is dressage, finishing two places in front of us. Our horses LOOK
like endurance horses. This stocky little guy acted like one - all
business, a great smooth ground-covering trot and the nicest attitude. He
really made me think there is a place in endurance for horses other than
Arabs.

I'll have a what gait photo for you all when the ride photographer mails our
CD.
