I have found ground driving to be so useful in establishing a line of
communication with a horse. One thing that may be helpful when you
first start is to have a friend help by leading the horse. It gives
a "driver" who feels clutsy a chance to get the lines to have a good
feel to the horse without the horse becoming overly upset.

I recently helped a friend to get a Spring tune-up on her horse this
way, and while it didn't entirely bolster the human's confidence, it
sure was a help for the horse to understand what was being asked.

I hope more people will try it. It is good in so many instances where
there is misunderstanding. I wish that I had first thought to use a
halter. That is a big inprovement for me, to just use a halter rather
than using ground driving just to begin snaffle training.
