I'd say so in Icelandic's, but not so common in other breeds. I know in other
breeds,
I've heard people mention "mealy mouth bays" to distinguish them from bay
horses that
don't have pangere. I have several Icelandics here too, but several without
it as well.
The ones that I can remember that DON'T have it are brown Ima, blacks Maja,
Kola and
Landi, palomino Sina (but maybe it's just invisible on palomino?), dark dun
(faded black?)
Svertla, blue dun pinto Flekka, red dun Runa...and I'm sure I've forgotten
someone! It
seems common, almost universal, in the chestnut/flaxens - is that just in
Icelandics?
Loftur (bay dun) shows it, and so does dark bay Brunka, plus the
chestnut/flaxens.
Frankly, I'm not sure if Skjoni does or not - since he's pinto, he has white in
some of
the areas I'd use to judge. Melnir (silver dapple) doesn't literally show it,
or at
least I don't think so, but he does have a little lightening around his muzzle
- I think
that's something different though, maybe a trait of s/d's...I don't know.

It's just interesting, but nothing earthshattering. I have never heard the
"color people"
talk about it much in this breed, so I wonder about its inheritence. It
appears that
Prinsessa has it and that Hroi MAY have it, but time will tell. For all I
know, they will
both outgrow it as they mature. :) That will be fine too.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone have a picture of a mature red dun Icelandic
that DOES
have pangere? Our only red dun is dark red dun Runa, and she's so dark that
you can miss
her dun-ness much of the year. She doesn't show the mealy mouth. I'm curious
about what
Princess Buttercup will look like as an adult.
