I had another lesson on Andi today, and Sharon (meanie that she is ;-) twirled the lead rope in the center of the arena the whole time! Andi didn't like it at first, but got used to it, especially when he discovered that when he went towards it, Sharon stopped twirling it. So when he got a little scared, he would veer in to get her to stop. Sharon got to the point where she wouldn't stop twirling untill he got within a nose of her. It was a great confidence booster for both me and Andi.
And speaking of confidence, after I rode Andi, Sharon and I went out for a conditioning ride with Whisper and her Holsteiner, Phynn. Whisper trotted and cantered in front thru the scary tamarasks and stump section of trail. She is now having more fun in front than behind!
