I make "tea" out of my manure. sounds gross but my cousin who has a
green thumb swears by it and the plants do seem to love it. I just
put poop in a five gallon bucket and let it rain in there and ferment
and turn all brown and yukky and pour the water only on plants. I
wonder why the boarding place told you panacur V... because here we
rotate wormers, I worm every two months, and people here talk about a
thing called the "Panacur Purge" when you have a really bad wormload.
Where you give panacur like five days or five weeks in a row... big
difference I know so I hope of anybody is thinking of trying it you
get it straight first! Anyway, is supposed to wipe out all worms. As
Karen said earlier, there are different worm problems different
places. For some reason no one right around me has ever had a bot
problem but north of here only a short way I see people on rides with
bots on their horses. I think bots are more associated with
agricultural areas with lots of cows etc. at least around here. But
we DO have a problem with strongyles, a big problem. Vets in our area
are always saying we need to worm regularly with something aimed
directly at strongyles. I worm once, or twice at most, a year with
Quest plus, to get tapeworms and things only Quest gets. But it is a
wormer than can kill if you give an overdose so I always weigh tape
first and never give it if a horse is thin like my Jas or young like
my Nas. its only for healthy strong adult horses I think! and also,
Annaleise said one time she doesnt feel a weigh tape accurately takes
into consideration the icelandic form and does not give a true weight
so I would give them a little less than what it says to give! The day
after worming, make sure you clean up all their poop and discard it in
an area where they cant go to. I read somewhere that if you have a
wormy area and you worm your horses they will get all the worms back
the very next day! scarey.
anyway.
