Virginia, you're correct in watching  this.  From experience, debris
usually does wash out of the eye, but occasionally a bit of something
might stay in and if it's sharp enough it might begin to embed itself
in the eye.  The only indication you'll see is a rather thick
discharge (watery discharge only means dust)...  The moment you see a
thick discharge get a vet out to remove the debris because it will
only move deeper into the eye if left alone.  Don't mess around with
drops...the debris has to be removed surgically..

The reason I was asking if she let you touch the swelling or cup her
eye...is because eye injuries are painful...they don't want anyone
poking around there....AND they'll usually keep their eye half shut
because of the pain and to keep the light out....

AND if a wound in an eye is left too long, it can begin to affect the
vision in the other eye (this is after a few days from the initial
injury)...

BUT having said that....Gat's eye looks fine.  I bet you'll notice the
swelling is down in a few hours...

We've had two eye injuries here and they aren't fun...
