>>>>Can I use a western saddle on her?

If it fits well! Is your horse mutton-withered? If so, you may have to
look for one that is very wide in front, or use a treeless western model.

>>> did let me borrow a knockoff Icelandic saddle to use in the mean time.

There are very few of us who use icelandic saddles on our Icelandic Horses.
They just aren't made to fit them well.

Because of the bad fit, sometimes they are used to force gait because they
cause the horse to ventroflex due to discomfort.

Treeless saddles are becoming more popular with the Icelandics because they
can comfortably fit a wide variety of back shapes.

Personally, I'd toss the icelandic saddle, and use treeless. The Sensation
is the most popular brand:

That all being said, can you send some pictures of your horse, the saddle,
and the saddle on the horse, from different angles so that we can see how it
fits?
