Oh I agree Judy -- "Delicate" is the last word I'd use and want used to 
describe our breed!    I don't even like it when people say an Icelandic 
horse is refined like that's a good thing.    Let the Arabians be refined. 
I want  good, usin, STURDY ponies in my barn.    To me, there is rugged 
beauty in stout and hairy when it comes to horseflesh.

How could a "delicate" horse have carried the Vikings and stood up to and 
flourished in a harsh climate over the centuries?

Of course, what is now being touted in the show ring as the breed ideal and 
bred for versus what the breed has always been may be the reason why this 
person would describe an Icelandic as delicate.
