with teev i felt bad about the constant application of toxic
substances on him, all the insecticides etc. So I would put a fly
mask and sheet and put the stuff on the SHEETS and not him. I found
he didnt have such a bad face problem if I put a long fly mask and
then war paint on the outside of it, not on his skin. or poridon.
Then I found if I got those sleezy mane slinky things he was not able
to get as much itch pleasure out of them because they would stretch
and were silky. A fly mask would be scratchy and he learned to use
it. I really believe, and now see his success with karen, am
convinced his itching took on a life of its own apart from his gnat
allergy. we know yes, he has gnat allergy, cornell verified it. But
there was a week where the weather was very cloudy and cool and windy,
conditions where gnats dont come out and he rubbed himself baldheaded.
he just got into rubbing and enjoyed it. I was so relived to not
have to worry about that anymore that I took down all my rubbing
defenses when Trausti came. Now we see he discovered teev's rubbing
spot in the paddock and was going to it more than nasi. So I covered
it back up in slick lawn trash bags wrapped in duct tape and watched
as he went to rub on it, got no pleasure, and walked away. He does
not try and rub on trees at turnout tho, and thats when Teev was too
far gone here, because i felt I had to turn him out, it would have
been cruel not to. But if I have to wrap every dang tree on this
property I will. i cant go thru this again. But Trausti doesnt have
anything on his ventril line, doesnt rub his face at all, doesnt try
and recruit others for mutual mane shredding... I think knock on wood
he just doesnt have what teev has. and like my vet said, if he doesnt
have it here he aint gonna have it nowhere.
