I have three seniors now, and have had two others, and I haven't had to do
anything special with theirs either. I do notice that my older horses are
getting what my farrier calls "old horse feet"...and at my age, I'm starting
to notice a lot of things that change with age. (Thunder now drags his
toes, probably from some age-related neurological change, so his toes wear
square. He also gets more chips than he used to, despite the supplements he
gets.) Maybe most older horse's chestnuts don't change, but I always allow
for some deviation in what's normal in the older guys. Never hurts to ask
your vet or farrier though - they see lots of horses, more than most of us
do!
