I yell at the dog and keep the horse moving past it talking soothingly to the horse and grouching at the dog. but any time we pass a place with a dog behind a fence barking its a wonderful opportunity. I ride close to the fence grouching at the dog and the horse kearns if he just keeps moving the dog won't get him and they lose fear of dogs. I used to turn and go toward the dog and that worked til someone on here said pitbulls and rottweillers are known to perceive that as a challenge and attack. my jas is not the least afraid of dogs but with him he has seriously kicked three or four and I felt bad about it at the time but my friend sylvia said I should never discourage him from that.
