Thanks. I bought Bjola to be a brood mare, but since I gelded Melnir last
year, she's a virtual Maytag repairman these days - looking for work. I
love this mare, but she hasn't had a lot of riding, so her number is up
next. I think she's beautiful, but she's no "dumb blonde" - she learns as
quickly as any horse on the farm. I really, really need to get some weight
off her though...her and Sina. The rest of the herd looks pretty good with
our weedy pastures, but these two (and Runa) are still too fat.

Bjola is Cali's half-sister, Ima's mom, Maja's aunt, and Kola and Hroi's
great-aunt. We love this family.

I took a chance when I bought Bjola. She was five, but basically untouched
and totally untrained, with a filly at her side. I thought she was
uncannily bright, and was totally smitten with her combination of looks and
brains. I took a chance on her gaitedness...I only saw her trot in the
pasture before I bought her, but Christine assured me that the family is
typically naturally gaited. I decided if she didn't gait, she could be my
personal riding horse, and trotting would be it. When I was watching her in
the round pen today, I noticed that she not only trotted, but foxtrotted,
and also step-paced a bit, gaits I've seen her do at liberty over the past
years. She's definitely more than just a pretty face.
