I'm having the same issue, and have posted about this before with the
post going unanswered [1]. Maybe [2] + [3] is related to this?

Anyway, "Remote client not connected", happening randomly (as in, it
worked just fine before, or worse: it works for *some* of the service
checks on that host, but not others).

Only thing to work around it for me is to "service icinga reload"
several times and the number of these nodes with status UNKNOWN
eventually goes down.

But then again, suddenly others randomly start to state "Remote Icinga
instance is not connected."
