It depends on checks. If you want to monitor some global checks (check a 
specific URL, check DNS or ping), that can be done by the Icinga server, you 
just have to use the check_http, check_ping and such scripts which are present 
in the libexec/
If you want to use some server specific checks (Disk usage, CPU Usage, etc.), 
you want to install the NRPE agent on all the clients and run the check_nrpe 
script from the server.

You probably should consider to install icinga2 core on the client instead of 
nope/check_nrpe. Will need a little more space but you get some benefits 
(better encryption e.g.).
