Dear list,

I have some questions regarding the synchronization of Icinga2 check results within a multi-master and multi-satellite setup. I was not able to find answers within the official documentation or through Google, which is why I hope some of you might be able to enlighten me.

Let's say I have the following setup:
2 masters, all sharing the "master" zone
2 satellites, all sharing the "satellite" zone, parent zone is "master"
5 clients with "satellite" as their parent zone

The satellites execute the checks on the clients.

Regarding my question is:
As far as I know, the satellites balance the client check executions and sync the check results within their cluster setup (so satellite02 knows what satellite01 received as check results and vice versa).

Now, since there are 2 masters: Do both satellites report all check results back to all 2 masters or does only one satellite sync back the check results to one master? And, does a satellite only sync back the results it obtained on its own or does it sync back "everything"?

For me it is unclear how check result information flows between satellites and masters. I would like to know this part in detail since I want to know how stuff works and I need to be able to write proper documentation for my projects.

Hopefully it is clear what I mean. Any hint is highly appreciated.

Best regards
Valentin
