When you need to set up the Icinga's behaviour on down states, you need to configure the host definition. So
host { use generic-host host_name sw.lit5 ... max_check_attempts 3 ... } If you still want to try to setup what I've told to you, you must setup the "max_check_attempts" (see above) to "1". But maybe I misunderstood what you want to achieve...
