I am very interested in building up an Icinga/Icinga-web network monitoring site on linux. The flavor of linux wasnt initially too important to me although I would like to work with one that is well used by the Icinga community. I am now working as a Network Engineer and would like to build my skill set up in linux and would like to get to understand the functionality of Icinga/Icinga-web and NagVis to support my work environment.
I have just installed Ubuntu and installed Icinga/Icinga-web. The System reports Linux icinga 3.0.0-14-server #23-Ubuntu SMP Mon Nov 21 20:49:05 UTC 2011 x86_64 with PHP Version 5.3.6-13ubuntu3.3. I am not convinced that I have the cleanest installation that I could have, so I was wondering how I could determine that. I am unable to connect to the Icinga Classic interface, but I am able to obtain a login when I go to http://{server}/icinga-web/ . I would like to use NagVis for linking with Google Maps and with image background photos, but am uncertain as to how to tie them all together. I expect that someone here has assembled or identified some documentation that would provide me with some guidance.
