The OS is CentOS 5.6 64 bit, the RDBMS is MySQL (5.5.16),  Icinga is 
icinga-1.6.1-1.el5.rf running on a 24 core machine with 48 GB of RAM
with databases and temp files on local disk.

Latency from iostat -x 1 showed about 5ms, with 92-95% disk utilization.
