Thanks for the suggestion. I ran netstat and did see a port associated with the 
service. I did not have time to test and see if that the same port is assigned 
every time. If so I could try that. I am curious as to why this one service 
isn’t working though. I am wondering if it is because the executable contains 
numerous words with periods in it.

 

Thanks again for the suggestion; I will try it on Monday when I get back in the 
office.

Does the service provide a tcp port?  If so, I know it's not the solution you 
are trying, but maybe simply checking for the tcp port from icinga would be a 
solution.
