Hello Markus,
I indeed had to set the date.timezone. Now the time in the topbar is in sync
with my workstation.
I changed that now. After clearing my browser cache and restarting the browser
I have run into another problem that
prevents me submitting the force check host command successfully.
I am convinced that this was the problem when I could successfully submit the
force check host command and it
did not execute it immediately.
Now I have to try and fix the other problem.

Hello Hans,
please check the time in the top bar of your Icinga Web, it should be
one hour behind.
Thats because PHP ignores the system timezone and requires its own setting.
date.timezone in your php.ini should be set to Europe/Amsterdam in your case.
