all valuable nagios3 features work in icinga 1.x unless stated otherwise 
in the documentation.

some parts have been deprecated though, which can be found in the 
Changelog as well as upgrade documentation. their functionality was 
either useless, or questioned to/by the community in order to remove 
them causing maintainer's headaches (i.e. 3d statusmap).
you'll find some additional features as well, some only in newer 
versions. the icinga documentation contains many hint boxes about that 
(i.e. "added in icinga 1.8").
