Yep. It's backwards compatible if you are used to the old Nagios format.
All existing plugins and addons can be used with Icinga too.

The plugin api is kept intact for compatibility reasons. The only 
adaptions required may be path changes (e.g. /usr/local/icinga instead 
of /usr/local/nagios)

The first final release is planned for Q4 2013 which should be end of 
october (osmc 2013). While Milestone Compat 1.x allows you to run it on 
your test instances, there's still more to come. We are currently 
working on the IDO and Livestatus components beind made available as

etc interesting as well.
