I'm not looking to monitor exchange or windows services although if I could 
show that I can monitor windows servers to a somewhat comparable level as Ops 
Manager with an opensource pricing model that would be interesting :-)

Thanks for the list of tools. I found the icinga page with a short description 
of each.  Considering the per-requistites it's probably easiest to start with 
Nagiosgraph.
