The documentation is based on an installation from source having everything below /usr/local/icinga (default prefix). The packagers have put the files in several directories according to the file layout of the appropriate distribution.

Betreff: [icinga-users] Documentation confusion
Hola,
which on my machine is /etc/icinga/icinga.cfg (because of package install rather than self compiled install)
I installed Icingia-web via packages ppa for Ubuntu Precise.
I am working through the documentation, but it doesn't match what I'm seeing on my server. Any help/explanation would be appreciated.
Two examples:
1. Because I'm running icinga-web I presume I'm using ido2db. So I read this page:
Which claims that :
What You'll End Up With
If you follow these instructions, here's what you'll end up with:
-
Icinga and the plugins will be installed underneath /usr/local/icinga
-
Icinga will be configured to monitor a few aspects of your local system (CPU load, disk usage, etc.)
-
The Icinga classic web interface will be accessible at http://localhost/icinga/ or http://yourdomain.com/icinga
-
A database which is filled by Icinga using IDOUtils
I have Icinga-web running, but there is no local system monitoring happening. I read thoroughly through the page, but I don't see any conf that resembles an initial set up that might monitor the localhost.
2. Thinking that a minor oversight, I move onto monitoring. On this page
I am told to edit
#> vi /usr/local/icinga/etc/icinga.cfg
and uncomment
#cfg_file=/usr/local/icinga/etc/objects/windows.cfg
Which isn't in the cfg file.I look, and sure enough, there isn't even a windows.cfg file anyway (so uncommenting wouldn't have helped, and nor would adding the line in).I note that the docs say they are the latest, it looks like sphinx style docs, so maybe they are coming from the repo.So I replace latest with 1.9:But they say the same thing. Now I'm just confused. What have I done wrong?cheersL.--Lachlan Simpson
