and the objects.cache the core creates once the configuration is read 
looks like?

you're bling guessing into something here - the alias in lconf is 
obviously required for the respective objectclass, but why in the world 
would a hostgroup attribute override a host's attribute? furthermore, 
run lconf export with verbose/debug output on that specific host and 
trace it.

oh, and provide some configuration, especially config.pm.
