J-ISIS Quick Tutorial

Dear CDS/ISIS List Members,

I am pleased to announce the
availability of the first Alpha release of Web-J-ISIS and the new August 2010
J-ISIS
Beta release.

I. The new August 2010
J-ISIS Beta release contains many new improvements and bug fixes. The most
significant are:

1)
The new Guided Search module that uses autocomplete user
interface features provides users with suggested queries or results as they
type their query in the search box. This is also commonly called autosuggest or
incremental search. J-ISIS autocomplete implementation is very fast even on
large indices in under a few milliseconds so that the user sees results pop up
as he types them.

2)
The new Tree-Table Worksheet editor that allows providing
data entry elements at the subfield level including Marc21 indicators.

3)
The new Tree-Table Data Entry module based upon the new
advanced worksheet.

The
J-ISIS Quick Tutorial has been updated to reflect these changes and can also be
downloaded.

II. The first Alpha release of Web-JISIS is a
Rich Internet Application (RIA) whose goal is to develop a web top application
that has the responsiveness, and look and feel of J-ISIS.

I would suggest that
you download first the Web-JISIS documentation that explains Web-JISIS
architecture. Web-JISIS is based on most advanced technologies including Web 2.0
technologies and Struts2  that provides agility
as a web application framework.. This document also explains how to install the
Web-JISIS3.war file and provides many screen shots that you should be able to
reproduce using the step-by-step instructions described in this document.

I would be very grateful
if you could take the time to try Web-JISIS and the new J-ISIS. All your
comments, suggestions, improvement requests and bug descriptions are welcome.

I hope you will enjoy
trying this new Web-JISIS Web application.

With my best wishes,

Jean-Claude

PS) I will now take
some summer vacation and will be back in September to work on J-ISIS and
Web-JISIS. However, I will always check my e-mails and try to  make some
progress on the software
development.
