WINISIS on the web

WEBLIS, an automated library system based on WinISIS
The Latest Software Launched by UNESCO 2011

Each and every Institute is able to make their own institutions site on the
administrative site of Software. Also can manage the site. Following is the
file
you can download to see how to manage your own institutes portal cum repository
cum online databases along with your OPAC.

Aims of the Software
WEBLIS, Software aims at providing an integrated library management tool
covering all main functions in a library, i.e. bibliographic database
management, users management, loans management, end-user searching on local and
external bibliographic databases, library portal and RFID Technology.....

General Considerations
• cataloguing of books and serials, independently of the format:
    MARC, LILACS, AGRIS, etc.

• end-user searching (OPAC),
• loans circulation,
• acquisitions,
• statistics,
• compatible with CDS/ISIS technology: reading ISIS-databases,
ISIS Formatting Language (PFT) and indexing (FST) of records.
• MARC-21 cataloging formats and other current protocols (
Z39.50...); multi-lingual.
General

The current version of WEBLIS, available in English, consists of the following
modules:

• Cataloguing system
• OPAC (search)
• LOAN module
• Statistical module

Cataloguing system
The cataloguing module allows one to catalogue the following record types:
• books - monographic and monographic-series levels (M and MS)
• papers from book (AM, AMS)
• papers from journals (AS)
• journals (S)
• miscellaneous (slides, photos, audio, video, etc)
The cataloguing module is supported by WWW-ISIS data entry facilities, thus
providing powerful validation tools and very friendly interface with lookup
tables, connected on-line thesaurus, possibilities to define default values,
and
many.

OPAC (on-line public access catalogue)
The OPAC module provides:
• basic and advanced search,
• History,
• Saving queries function, and
• ISIS Query language facilities
• thesaurus based search
Additionally, it is possible to implement other WWW-ISIS functions, e.g.
download functions (ISO2709, text, rtf).

LOAN
The LOAN module fully controls loan related procedures such as:
• hold/reserve
• loan/ renew
• automatic claiming (by e-mail or a traditional mail in word form)
• urgent task lists

Other LOAN module features:
• The module is fully integrated with the catalog
• The librarian can define various rules for various library material types and
user groups.

• The rules are checked when a loan /renew /reserve operation is attempted
• To ensure confidentiality and to protect the patron records the following
security features are necessary:

o The ability to limit access to the patron database for authorized staff
members only.

o Once an ITEM is returned there is no history linking it back to the specific
user.

Note: After returning a book the LOAN record is still stored for statistics.
Only the link to PATRON will be removed (except for the corporate patron).

• Barcodes/magnetic cards for patrons and/or books can be implemented, but are
not obligatory

• Advanced free text search functions can be used for searching among users or
items.

• Various statistics can be produced in order to analyze the library
activities.

ISIS-Statistics
This module works locally in Windows environment. The main goal of the program
is to generate statistical data aggregated from the CDS/ISIS databases. The
system works directly on the ISIS database. In order to perform a statistical
analysis one has to define a spreadsheet. Once a spreadsheet is defined, it can
be executed many times on a given database. Each run of the spreadsheet
generates a result. The results are stored in a special ISIS database. They are
identified by a spreadsheet name and the date of running it (you can collect
statistics from various periods, and then compare them)
