Connecticut College held a Sailapalooza event last week and we had 150 Particpate and we gave rides to 110 students that had never been on a boat. We had a BBQ sponsored by the Atheltic Department and Utrade Off. We are happy to exchange ideas with anyone and feel free to go to our site to view pictures.

I got some great pictures from University of Florida too. It is really great to see college sailing going out of their way to introduce more people to the sport. At ODU we took just over 100 new sailors sailing in four hours. Some of the participants had so much fun they have joined our team. If your team participated share the good news. Walt has always told me that Layline sponsors college sailing because he is fan of how many sailors are introduced to sailing while in college. College sailing teams are in the unique position to offer access to sailing to those that have never had access to the sport. We came up with the Sailapalooza idea as way to introduce even more people to the sport. He and I have talked about it some since last January, and I finally got it together. Goal: Utilize College Sailing teams, facilities, and collegiate energy to introduce as many people to the sport of sailing as possible. In the process, build campus awareness for the sailing team or club, foster community and campus relations, and recruit new team members if you need them. How it works: 1.. Teams pick one day or several from September through October 15 as their contest dates. 2.. Use your teams' boats and sailors to take people on a quick introductory sail. 3.. Each team collects names and email addresses of each participant. 4.. Each team will submit to [EMAIL PROTECTED] this list of participants and at least one digital photo of the event at their school. 5.. Team that takes the most non-sailors sailing wins. 6.. Bonus points for best photos. 7.. Good clean fun in small boats. 8.. Teams can promote it within their school as they wish. Set a boat on campus. Play the new ESPNU DVD from the ICSA / Gill Dinghy National Championships in a public forum. Each team should have already received this in the mail. 9.. And the winning team gets... I am working on a prize for winning team, but you can count on short lived fame, as the results will be posted among the sailing media. Layline and ICSA will post pictures on our websites, www.layline.com. 10.. Teams should make available to participants local and regional sailing resources such as local community sailing centers, sailing clubs, www.ussailing.org, and www.sailamerica.org. 11.. Sailapalooza can also be used as a precursor to a campus fundraiser for your team or for a charity of your teams' choosing. What you need to do: Send me an email indicating that your team wants to play, [EMAIL PROTECTED] Pick your dates and confirm with your facilities and advisor that there is no conflict. Have fun! Let me know if you have any questions. ________________________________________________ icsa mailing list [email protected] http://www.collegesailing.org/mailman/?listname=sa ________________________________________________ icsa mailing list [email protected] http://www.collegesailing.org/mailman/?listname=icsa
