REGATTA HIGHLIGHTS:
The final day of the Inaugural Western Canada Cup saw strong winds,
and exciting racing conditions in Victoria British Columbia, Canada.
Racing took place on Cadboro Bay, on the Pacific Ocean. The Royal
Victoria yacht Club co-hosted the NWICSA regatta with the UVic Sailing
Club, and all sailing was done in the FJ. Wind conditions were light
and variable to start off the cup, with a Northeasterly building to
5kts to allow 4 races in each division Saturday afternoon. Sunday
brought sun and wind to round out the regatta. The 10kt westerly came
with 20kt gusts providing exciting conditions for the 2 races sailed
by each division Sunday morning. All races were twice around
windward-leeward courses with a closed starting line. Temperatures
reached 12 degrees Celsius each day.
The University of Washington is the first school to have their name
engraved on the Western Canada Cup Trophy. Congratulations!
