YALE RETAINS LEAD AT 2008 ICSA WOMEN'S NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP
BOSTON COLLEGE MOST IMPROVED ON DAY TWO

Newport, Rhode Island (May 27, 2008) - With the possibility of afternoon
thunderstorms in the forecast for day two of the 2008 ICSA Women's National
Championship, racing was underway by 10:00 a.m. in a moderate southwest
breeze that allowed both A- and B-Divisions to complete four races each by
the break for lunch. As the morning haze burned off, the 15-20
southwesterly gave the competitors plenty to work with on Narragansett Bay
as four additional races were completed just as a line of clouds threatened
to bring showers to the racecourse.

For the ladies from Yale University (New Haven, Conn.), their efforts to
extend their lead appeared to be unstoppable through the break after the
10th races in both divisions. Up by 27 points over second-placed Brown, the
resumption of racing saw the B-Division duo of junior Kate Hagemann (Marion,
Mass./Naples, Fla.) and freshman Liz Brim (New York, N.Y.) pick up an OCS
and two additional double-digit finishes that dropped them from first to
fourth in their division. Junior Jane Macky (Auckland, New Zealand), with
sophomore Marla Menninger (Newport Beach, Calif.) and freshman Sarah Lihan
(Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.), kept her grip on second place in A-Division to keep
Yale in the overall leader's position with 147 points.

Most improved goes to Boston College (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) who started the
day seventh overall and moved to second overall by the end of the day's
fourth race. The efforts of A-Division junior skipper Leigh Kempton (Island
Heights, N.J.) with senior Emily Flint (Longmeadow, Mass.), and the
B-Division team of juniors Martha Pitt (Milton, Mass.) and Lily Beck
(Larchmont, N.Y.) have the Eagles only seven points out of first place,
despite one boat hitting two marks, and one boat not only hitting a mark,
but being over the starting line early in one race.

The defending champions from St. Mary's College (St. Mary's, Md.) moved into
third place from fifth yesterday, while Brown University (Providence, R.I.)
slipped back a spot to fourth overall. However, with both colleges tied at
157 points, the mere 10 points keeping these teams from first place puts
Yale within striking distance when the final day of racing gets underway
tomorrow.

New York Yacht Club's Harbour Court is the headquarters for the three-day
championship that concludes May 28. New York Yacht Club is the host of the
championship - sailed in 420s - along with Brown University (Providence,
R.I.) and Salve Regina University (Newport, R.I.), with support from Sail
Newport.

The Format: To get to the ICSA Women's National Championship, 18 colleges
qualified through performance in their respective conference elimination.
Each college fields a separate A and B division team, and, weather
permitting, each division sails eighteen 20- to 30-minute fleet races over
three days for a total of 36 races. A team's final score is determined by
the combined results of its sailors in A and B divisions.
