49th Jan T. Friis Trophy
Tufts University and Medford Boat Club
April 11-12, 2009
Saturday:
Great day of racing except for cold temperatures and afternoon rain.
Winds came straight down the lake from the NNE at 8-14. A double
round-robin for the seven teams was completed. Thanks to several Tufts
sailors for running finishes, scoring and dock crew. Thanks to John
Tagliamonte for hearing three protests. Thanks also to the Medford Boat
Club for providing dock space, shelter and even hot chocolate. Coaches
were treated to a great view from the second floor indoor lounge
overlooking the leeward mark.
1. Boston College 11-1
2. Tufts 9-3
3. Harvard 8-4
4. Charleston 7-5
5. Boston University 5-7
6. Rhode Island 2-10
7. Coast Guard 0-12
Sunday:
Too windy. Racing postponed for one hour as winds were gusting to 30
knots early. Winds died down to an average of 18 and racing got
underway just before noon. Wind gusts, however, continued strong
causing equipment failures and capsizing. Racing was ended after five
races were completed. Results of the Friis trophy revert back to the
day one results. Congratulations to Boston College for winning the 2009
Friis trophy.
