The College of Charleston played host to six other teams for the TS Stern Sloop
Regatta. For the first time the regatta was a match race championship and, so
far, it has been a huge success.

Conditions could not have been much better with temperatures in the high 70s
and a stable, moderate northerly breeze that was around 8-15mph all day. We
had manageable current with the high tide around 3pm so racing was never too
one-tracked, and current and breeze were roughly running parallel.

We completed an opening round robin by 3:00pm and immediately broke into gold
and silver round robins. Both were completed by 5:00. Races were fully
umpired and averaged around 15 minutes. The courses used were 2 lap windward
leewards with starboard roundings and an independent start/finish line. We
managed to fit the three matches of each flight on the same course without much
chaos.

University of South Florida came out of the gates firing, going undefeated in
the opening round. They were followed by Georgetown (4-2), College of
Charleston (4-2), and Clemson (3-3). These teams moved onto the gold round.
UC Irvine (2-4), Eckerd (1-5), and Jacksonville (1-5) made up the silver round.

The afternoon's gold round determined seedings for tomorrow's knockout stage.
Racing improved much and results showed the parity. Charleston came out as the
top seed going 2-1 followed by Clemson (2-1), Georgetown (1-2), and U South
Florida (1-2).

The Silver Round Robin went UCI (2-0), Eckerd (1-1), and Jacksonville (0-2).
Silver will do another tomorrow to determine places 5-7.

Tomorrow's knockout semifinals will be first to three wins and will pit C of C
against G-Town and Clemson against USF. Winners go to the finals. Losers race
for 3rd.

Scoring grids and many thank yous to come with tomorrow's report.
