What Google is ACTUALLY Mad About and Why

Cyanogen received a Cease and Desist notice from Google because of the
inclusion of "certain closed source apps" in his ROM. This actually makes
sense as to why if you look into it.

These apps are not licensed to Cyanogen for redistribution, so Google can
definitely stop him from giving them out technically. But it isn't because
he is distributing any apps, it's because of releasing certain apps that are
not officially out yet.

The Market is the most obvious of these apps. Since the new market app
Cyanogen released is the not yet finished app that was leaked from within
Google. Since this version is not yet finalized and most likely still have
bugs in it, Google is probably worried that issues like multiple charges on
customers credit cards could result, etc. and Google definitely doesn't want
to deal with that. Imagine how big of task that would be to clean up if it
got out of hand?

So basically Google, is not against rooting. They are simply trying to stop
an issue from happening by Cyanogen releasing apps that have control over a
lof of people's credit cards, from happening.

The issue though is that Google can't just tell Cyanogen to take out the
unreleased Market app and continue on with his work. The reason is that if
they tell him to take out that one app and not the rest, it would legally
give him the right to distribute the other apps from now on (since they
didn't stop him, he then has the right to do so. Confusing, right?)
So Google has to say, stop entirely.

I don't think Google will now all of a sudden start issuing cease and
desists to all of the developers (so long as they dont include the new
Market app before it is finalized), but Cyanogen may be stuck because of the
reasoning above. There has to be a way around this, Google?

Bottom line though guys, this is NOT about rooting. So feel free to root
away and enjoy (Google loves the rooting, it makes their phones more
appealing and Android is an Open source platform, it's just that Market app
they don't want you messing with.)

Update: GOOGLE RELEASES A STATEMENT!

Officially APPROVES of custom Android builds!
Google goes on to talk about how GMail, Market, and Maps are their own
developed software for Android (as opposed to apps that are normally
included with Android) and they make money off them just like any other
developer would if they made an app for the Market. Google makes money by
selling the Google Experience (all of these apps combined) to manufacturers,
even though the Android OS is free (sneaky if you think about it). So they
don't want people to be able to get them for free.

The issue I have with this explanation is that Cyanogen was making ROMs for
devices that already have the Google Experience logo on them so what are
they losing? Again think this goes back to the unofficial release of the
Market.

AND AGAIN, THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU ROOTING OR USING CUSTOM ROMS SO FEEL
FREE TO CONTINUE!
