Kalau mau langsung flash ke custom rom langsung lanjut tidak perlu root tidak apa2, karena ketika mau flash bisa menggunakan recovery image yg didalamnya sudah diroot dan saat ini pun hampir semua custom rom sudah memasukan root access. Tapi kalau mau tetap di rom yg sekarang dan ingin lebih leluasa ketika menjalankan aplikasi atau lainnya yg berhubungan dengan privilige root, baru deh dibutuhkan rooting di handset kita.
