Ext2 doesn't have journalling unlike 3/4 so the performance won't be as good. Ext3 is pretty much the standard, I personally used ext4, just because it's the newest. Cyanogen uses ext4 and that's what I would reccomend, but not all ROMs support it. There's nothing wrong with 3, 4 is just newer, doesn't really matter which you choose.
