This morning, Verizon Wireless began updating the original Motorola
Droid<http://erictric.com/2010/08/26/verizon-pushing-adobe-flash-player-10-1-for-motorola-droid/>
to
the FRG22D build of Android 2.2 [Froyo], which allows the device to download
Adobe Flash 10.1 from Android Market. However, as with any other updates,
the roll out is gradual. That means that not all Motorola Droid owners will
receive Android 2.2 [Froyo] Build FRG22D over the air today.

Luckily, the folks over at *Android
Forums<http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/159434-how-force-official-android-2-2-froyo-update-motrola-droid-frg22d-update-2-2-a.html#post1456886>
* have found the original file on the Google Servers, which means that those
not willing to wait until Verizon Wireless pushes the update to their
Motorola Droid units can manually update their devices now.

Make you way past the break to see the full instructions.

   1. Download the file from the Google Servers [

https://android.clients.google.com/updates/voles/signed-voles-FRG22D-from-FRG01B.688e3520.zip
   ]
   2. It’s very important that you rename the file to *update.zip*. Do not
   skip this step.
   3. Place the file on the root of the SD card.
   4. Turn your phone off.
   5. Boot into recovery by holding Power + X key on the physical QWERTY
keyboard. Do not let go of the X key.
   6. A triangle with exclamation point will appear. You can let go of the X
   key
   7. To access Recovery Mode, press the volume up and camera buttons at the
   same time.
   8. Using the D-Pad select “apply sdcard:update.zip,” and press the gold
   button on the D-Pad.
   9. The update process will begin. It might take a few minutes
   10. Use the D-Pad to select “reboot system now.”
   11. The phone will shut itself off and reboot with Build FRG22D of
   Android 2.2 [Froyo].

Do take into account that *Erictric* is not responsible for bricked or
damaged devices. Proceed at your own risk and only if you know what you’re
doing. Also, you must have Build FRG01B of Android 2.2 pre-installed in
order to use the update. It will not work for rooted phones.

Let us know how it goes.
