The ESN is the Electronic Serial Number used for CDMA phones; typically older phones, as the CDMA phones are now being registered by an MEID rather then the ESN. If the ESN is bad, that would mean that: (1) Number was entered or read incorrectly; (2) You are trying to activate a phone for one carrier onto another carrier, and they have no record of the ESN (as it was intended for another carrier); or, (3) the phone was reported lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair, thus the phone is not cleared to be activated.
